Copper Range Campground sits next to the Bois Brule River and, like it’s sibling campground to the south, is often used by paddlers on multi-day trips, and/or flyfishermen. Every site is at least partially shaded by tall pines and hardwoods and within walking distance of the river. Three walk-in/canoe campsites are close to the river, but not riverfront. Two of the walk-in sites (#32 and #33) can be combined for small groups of up to 12 people.

There are 17 non-electric campsites. 14 sites are available for tent and RV/trailer camping (back-in only, length varies), one site is accessible. 3 sites are walk-in tent only and intended for canoe camping. Campground amenities include a canoe landing, drinking water (hand pump) and vault toilets. All 17 campsites are reservable.

River Camping

The Copper Range Campground is the second of two State Forest campgrounds on the north-flowing Bois Brule River. . The first is the Bois Brule Campground, 9.7 river miles upriver and 5.8 road miles to the south. The location of the two campgrounds creates easy logistics for fun canoe camping trips on an awesome river.

Both campgrounds feature developed landings with plenty of room to park your canoes overnight.

Trails & Places

The Historic Bayfield Road Trail is a popular hike for campers at the Copper Range Campground. Trail access is across the river, over the Park Road bridge.

Be sure to check out the Brule State Fish Hatchery (open 8am - 4pm) where visitors can walk along the raceways and ponds. The Trout Rearing Station education building (free to the public) features interesting fish and wildlife exhibits.

Season

The campground is open year-round
