Bicycling is a wonderful way to explore Wisconsin. You’ll find paved-paths and rail-trails, from urban trail systems, to trails through Wisconsin’s driftless region, to northwoods pathways with views of beautiful lakes, rivers, and creeks...
This 27 mile-long, non-motorized (summer) trail is on a former railroad bed that runs from Minocqua to Heafford Junction. Most of the upper and lower Bearskin is surrounded by hardwood forests of maple, oak, elm, and birch. A long stretch in the middle passes through a scenic area of pine forest, spruce-tamarack bog, and natural springs along the meandering Bearskin Creek.
One of Wisconsin’s first rail-trails features a pleasant ride through a rural countryside along the Red Cedar River. Bicyclists, walkers, and joggers will find scenic river views, rock formations, railroad trestles, and historical sites. The grade of the entire trail is flat, making this a fun and easy ride for everyone from “seasoned citizens” to families with children.
