Beautiful Ada Lake (75 acres) has wide sandy shallows along its perimeter and a 60-foot-deep hole near the center. The deep waters provide an excellent habitat for a variety of fish including Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Panfish and Largemouth Bass. Paddlers will enjoy exploring the shallows along the west and north shorelines, the water is so clear you’ll see fallen logs on the rocky bottom and plenty of fish (wear polarized sunglasses!).
A series of rapids and minor falls on the North Branch Oconto River rush past this scenic campground shaded by tall red pines. A riverside trail through cedars and firs offers views of the rapids and falls. Flyfishing for Brook Trout and class III whitewater paddling (spring and early summer) are popular activities on the river.
Most of the campground sits on a wooded rise overlooking scenic Bear Lake (66 acres). Balsam fir, cedar, pines, and hemlocks shade the lakeshore sites, while the rest of the campground lies under a canopy of maples. Many of the campsites are spaced well-apart from each other to provide pleasant levels of seclusion. Large beds of trillium are scattered throughout the campground and the early summer blooms are impressive, especially near the south end. The lake is electric motors only and offers excellent paddling.
Scenic Boot Lake Campground provides a fun northwoods camping experience on the west shore of a 230-acre lake. The campground is set on rolling terrain with tall red pines and birch providing plenty of shade. Mature pines stand in the middle of many of the sites. The lake has crystal-clear waters and features inviting sandy shallows at the swimming beach, which is one of the better beaches in the Chequamegon-Nicolet. An open lawn with picnic tables is behind the beach.
This is one of the most popular campgrounds in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. A great camping destination for families, couples and groups. Abundant recreational opportunities in the area include whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, boating, fishing, mountain biking, and hiking.
The campground is next to a pair of idyllic northwoods lakes with clear waters and fantastic wilderness scenery, Laura Lake (106 acres) and Gordon Lake (51 acres). Hemlocks and pines lean over the water and a spruce-tamarack bog lies on the west shore of Gordon Lake. Laura Lake is surrounded by hemlocks, balsam fir, pines, and hardwoods.
The campground sits on the west shore of the large but shallow Pine Lake (1,673 acres). The campsites are shaded by hardwoods and conifers and several (6, 8, & 11) are next to a scenic hemlock bog. Pine Lake is popular for recreational boating and fishing for Panfish, Bass, Northern Pike, and Walleye. Many who camp at Pine Lake are here for the excellent fishing, not only on Pine lake but also on the Three Lakes-Chain of Lakes just a few miles to the northwest.
The small recreation area is spread out over hilly terrain on the south shore of Richardson Lake (48 acres) in a pleasant back-country setting. If you’re looking for a simple weekend getaway to unwind and relax, set up camp and read a book by a campfire, maybe swim, paddle, or fish on the lake, then this a great campground to consider.
