Razorback is one of the more secluded campgrounds in the State Forest, providing a peaceful camping experience on the north shore of Razorback Lake (381 acres). The lake features beautiful scenery with numerous bays and wooded islands and is a popular boating and fishing destination. Canoers and kayakers will enjoy early morning or late afternoon paddling when wildlife is most active.

The campground has 54 non-electric campsites in a maturing forest of oak, pines, and balsam fir. 47 sites are available for tent and RV/trailer camping (back-in only, length varies) and 7 are walk-in tent sites. All sites have a fire ring, picnic table, tent area, and parking spur. Campground amenities include drinking water (hand pump), accessible vault toilets, and a firewood bin ($ fee). All sites are reservable.

Most campsites offer pleasant levels of privacy, and most are fully shaded beneath a high canopy of hardwoods. Walk-in tent site #2134 is the most secluded site in the campground.

Sites #2118 and #2119 have steep, sloping driveways that will be difficult for longer RV/trailer lengths.

Lakeside Campsites with Lake Access
Many of the campsites close to the lake are set back from the shoreline with partial to open views of the water through balsam fir and pines. These include: #2102, #2103, #2116, #2118, #2119, #2120, #2138, #2140, #2142, #2143, #2133, #2134, #2135, and #2136. Two campsites next to the beach and picnic area have excellent lake views, but not much privacy: #2102, #2103. Walk-in tent sites #2135 and #2136 have shoreline access and open lake views.

The day use area has an open picnic grounds with views of the lake, and a swimming beach with clear waters and sandy-bottomed shallows. The separate public boat landing is north of the campground and offers a ramp, launch pier, turnaround, and trailer parking.

Razorback Lake is a Loon nesting site.

Trails & Places

Two fantastic lakes for paddling are close to the Razorback Lake Campground. The Aurora Lake State Natural Area features sprawling, shallow, non-motorized waters surrounded by a variety of aquatic plants. Wild rice is dominant. Other leafy plants include white and yellow water lilies, watermilfoil, pondweeds, and waterweed. The northern part of the lake is a scenic boreal bog covered in sphagnum moss and sedges with clusters of bog orchids. The lake’s shoreline provides a beautiful backdrop of tamarack, spruce, and occasional paper birch. Bring binoculars if you have them as birdlife is abundant.

Lone Tree Lake is surrounded by an undeveloped shoreline covered in pine, spruce, tamarack and balsam fir. A rustic, carry-in landing is the only access. An early morning or late afternoon paddle on calm days is highly recommended.

Season

The campground is open or closed depending on snow conditions (not plowed).
