Located 3 miles east of Minocqua-Woodruff and 20 miles west of Eagle River, this State Forest campground is conveniently located to enjoy everything the two popular resort communities have to offer. The campground lies on the south shore of Carrol Lake (352 acres), which offers beautiful northwoods scenery and several wooded island. Paddling and fishing are popular activities. A channel at the west end connects with Madeline Lake.
Carrol Lake Campground has 19 non-electric campsites. Site #104 is the Campground Manager. 12 sites are available for tent and RV/trailer camping (back-in only, length varies) and 7 sites are walk-in tent only. Each site has a tent area, parking spur, picnic table and fire ring. Campground amenities include a swimming beach, drinking water (hand pump) and accessible vault toilets. 18 sites are reservable.
Lakeside Campsites with Lake Access
Three walk-in tent sites at the west end of the campground are in a lakeside location in a stand of pine and balsam fir, each has its own shoreline access (101, 102, & 103). At the other end of the campground, walk-in tent sites 118 & 119 are also close to the lake with shoreline access. Site #118 has an open lake-view, while 119 offers more limited views. Although the walk-in tent sites that bookend the campground are in beautiful settings, they are all close to the county highway which normally has a steady stream of traffic during the day.
A pair of walk-in tent sites are in the middle of the campground. Site 111 is lakeside and features an excellent view of the lake from its fire-ring and tent area. This site offers the most privacy.
For wheeled campers and/or tent camping, sites 105, 106, 107, and 109 are waterfront with partial views of the lake and shoreline access. Site 112 features a long, level spur for larger RV’s and trailers, has shoreline access, and offers views of the lake looking east. Site 117 sits above the small beach area and has the best lake views in the campground.
A picnic area and boat landing are at the west end of the campground. The picnic area features beautiful views of the lake and offers picnic tables, benches, and an accessible fishing pier. The boat landing has a paved ramp, launch pier, turnaround, and a paved trailer parking area.
