TRAIL NOTES
A gorgeous trail system, the Lakewood Ski Trail's main feature is the Blue Trail, a two-way, 20 kilometer, point-2-point trail with an 8-10 foot wide skating lane and a classic track. This is mostly an intermediate trail with two loops for beginners and several sections for experts through rolling terrain. The scenery throughout is typical northwoods, varied and beautiful!
The Blue Trail starts at the McCauslin Brook Golf Course at the clubhouse parking lot which is plowed regularily. An info kiosk for the Lakewood Ski Trails marks the beginning of the trail. The entire trail system offers six access points with parking lots. The three main access points are: at the aforementioned Golf Club clubhouse, on Old Highway 32, and on County F at the intersection with Riverside Rd.
Beginners will especially enjoy the Red Loop (Hwy 32 parking lot), which starts out in a red pine plantation, then meanders through leafless stands of aspen, birch, and mixed hardwoods. There's plenty of trail for intermediates with numerous cutoffs that can be used to form small loop routes as well as to avoid more difficult terrain. Advanced skiers will enjoy the loop formed by the Black, Blue, and Gold Trails at the northeast end of the trail system. This loop is challenging and very scenic.
LAND OWNERSHIP
The entire trail system lies within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Florence Ranger District.
