TRAIL NOTES
Nashotah Park, part of the Waukesha County Park system, features 10 kilometers of cross-country ski trails groomed for classic and skate. The terrain is typical of a glacial moraine landscape and ranges from a few easy flats, to gentle rollers, to small challenging hills. The scenery is diverse for such a small park (444 acres). There are two lakes, an oak forest, an oak savanna, open fields, a cedar glade, and areas of open marsh.
There are three loop trails that range in difficulty from novice to advanced. First is a 2.4 km trail that circles an open field and is suitable for novices. The second loop is an excellent 5.6 km intermediate-level trail that winds through oak savanna, oak forest, open fields, and features several lake views. The third loop is a short (1.6 km), fun, and challenging trail through scenic woodlands.
This is a beautiful, well-maintained park, and the cross-country ski trail system is a definite favorite amongst the locals.
